Announcing the Speedwell Stationery Collection with Kevin Jay Stanton!

Potluck.art & award-winning illustrator Kevin Jay Stanton present the Speedwell Stationery Collection! Our debut collection features an arrangement of thoughtful planner accessories inspired by Veronica persica: the miniature blue flowers blooming in the cracks of sidewalks in the early spring, encouraging us to persevere through hardship and darkness.

About the Products

The Speedwell Sticker Sheets allow you to embellish your preferred planner with as much ornament or minimalism as you prefer. Potluck offers three designs both as a set and as multi-packs of each individual design:

The Art Stickers bring a botanical touch to every page.
The Tab Divider Stickers allow you to mark those that are the most important with a decorative tab.
The Icon Stickers include weather and plant symbols to track the elements, moods, or progress on a goal - and happen to fit neatly inside the daily squares of the Calendar Sticky Notes.

The Speedwell Sticky Notes help you quickly create your own monthly, weekly, and daily spreads within your preferred planner. We offer two styles of sticky note both individually and as a set:

The Calendar Sticky Note offers a flexible layout for creating months at-a-glance exactly where you need them or for tracking habits across a week.
The Archivist Sticky Note provides a prebuilt layout for quickly recording what really matters - whether its plant observations, a recipe, or character notes from your last tabletop session.

About the Collection

Kevin and I are both heavy stationery users and came into this collaboration with a lot of strong opinions. We really strived to make a selection of adaptable and user-friendly items while prioritizing both print and material quality. Domestic manufacturing and recyclability is core to Potluck’s identity while Kevin really pushed for the pocket-sized scale that could truly be taken anywhere.

Achieving the Speedwell’s colors across multiple materials and finishes was an additional challenge - we both regularly searched our neighborhoods and parks for flashes of the tiny blue buds to compare our samples to!

The miniature planner accessories are packaged in recyclable seed envelopes. This packaging was sourced early in the project from overstock of the oldest envelope manufacturer in the domestic United States. The repurposed envelopes both reinforced the small scale of our products and added another point of inspiration to the project as Kevin used their golden color to offset the vibrant blue-purple of the Speedwell flowers in our signature artwork.

About the Inspiration

Illustrator and designer Kevin Jay Stanton has this to say about the collection:

The Speedwell Stationery Collection is inspired by the feeling of discovery that comes with finding yourself someplace new, like suddenly noticing a tiny flower that you've never seen before. In the past two years I've really fallen in love with having a notebook that fits in a pocket so that I can jot something down quickly and then spend more time on it later. The colors are inspired by houses I saw in Wales, which match the speedwell flower (Veronica persica) I see almost everywhere I go. I hope that having a notebook handy like this one will inspire you to write down your own thoughts and plans and sketches, like the one I have been using too!

When Kevin first brought this flower to me for Potluck, I was attracted to its colors and small scale and knew nothing else about it. The more I researched, the more I began to notice its tiny blossoms sprinkling my usual walking paths. The speedwell plant is extremely successful and can be found almost globally, although it is generally considered to be a weed. It survives amongst mechanization, pollution and heavy foot traffic, living in community with people. Its delicate blooms hide a hearty nature, and I can't help but feel a kinship with that.

About the Artist

Kevin Jay Stanton is an illustrator with a green thumb. His work focuses on plants and symbolism and is inspired by historical and mythological research.

The culmination of this was his successful project with Beehive Books, in the form of Botanica Tarot in 2020, which featured 78 paintings and broke the record for Most Funded Tarot at the time of its funding.

He spends his time opening too many tabs, gardening, and playing videogames.
