What is Potluck.art?
Potluck.art is an upcoming online retailer and production house specializing in human-designed and domestically-made consumer products promoting social progress.
Potluck is a collaboration between Lauren Jordan and the team at Dual Wield Studio.
Why the name "Potluck?"
Potlucks embody the gratitude and generosity of humans sharing food to keep each other alive. We use the ".art" domain to showcase commitment to individual workers and their labor, and we highlight our larger responsibility to our planet with the "O" as a pale blue dot: a reference to our home the planet Earth.
Potluck's logo and branding artwork were created by Sarah Duyer and Lauren Jordan.
What is Potluck doing differently?
Potluck prioritizes existing materials and waste streams over raw materials at every stage.
We use recycled materials not only for shipping and order fulfillment but also in design, production and marketing.
- Potluck uses only secondhand, thrifted, donated or otherwise landfill-bound materials for initial design and prototyping processes.
- We seek out businesses specializing in sustainable manufacturing and especially those exploring green technologies and innovative materials.
- We commit to using only secondhand, upcycled or handmade props for our photography and marketing.
Potluck partners with businesses that take care of their employees and communities.
Once we've found a manufacturer we like, we research them to the best of our ability to ensure they are treating both their employees and their local community well.
- We prefer local and domestic businesses and especially those contributing in tangible ways to those communities.
- We give priority to unionized or employee-owned businesses. We do not work with companies known to union bust.
- We do not work with manufacturers that knowingly pollute their local communities and environments.
Potluck products embody our message both in function and form.
- Potluck products are released via preorder to ensure we are not using up resources and creating unnecessary waste.
- Potluck is not a print-on-demand nor a customized merchandise company.
- Potluck does not use generative AI at any stage of our process. We commit to opting out of and/or avoiding AI tools integrated into the platforms we use, and we do not work with artists that use generative AI in their work.
